Genealogy
A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.
Marcus Garvey
Cultural issues encompass a wide range of factors, including race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender, and disability. We use the word “culture” to describe the values and traditions of a particular community. Differences in views about well-being, self-perception, identity, and family can all influence our mental health. Feeling a sense of belonging is a fundamental human need, and when individuals feel marginalized or disconnected, it can impact their sense of acceptance and place in the world. This is something many people experience at some point in their lives.
Learning about one’s family history, including their origins, experiences, challenges, successes, and aspirations, can foster a stronger sense of self. Exploring one’s heritage, embracing family traditions, and understanding one’s cultural roots can provide valuable insights into who we are, where we come from, and the unique strengths we possess. Connecting with our ancestors and their stories can broaden our perspective on life, promote healing, and empower us to move forward with greater understanding. Knowing our origins and the accomplishments of those who came before us can be crucial to understanding who we are today.
This transformative program is designed to meet the unique needs of each participant. We partner with universities, businesses, organizations, and educational institutions to plan genealogy and heritage exploration experiences. The goal of these experiences is to foster personal growth, promote understanding, and strengthen our connections to one another, recognizing our shared humanity and unity under God’s guidance.
