Our Story
Following the thread
Our founders spent years working in education, leadership development, and cross-cultural learning. Traditional training programs often increased awareness — but awareness alone did not reliably lead to deeper understanding, meaningful relationships, or lasting change.
So we began asking a harder question: what kinds of experiences actually help people broaden their perspectives, challenge their assumptions, and engage more thoughtfully with others?
Reflecting on our own journeys, one common thread emerged. Our most significant growth came through immersive learning that connected us with different cultures, communities, and perspectives in ways a classroom alone could not.
Rather than trusting personal experience alone, we ran qualitative research into how immersive learning affects people from diverse backgrounds. The findings confirmed what we had lived: meaningful educational experiences deepen empathy, expand perspective, strengthen cross-cultural understanding, and encourage more thoughtful engagement across difference.
Those insights became the foundation of Shaya Collective.
